100_4186I am a B2B copywriter who is also a Certified Public Accountant. I’ve worked in tax and accounting since 2002, first at a small H&R Block office in rural New Mexico, then in public accounting since 2004.  I’ve been a CPA since 2005.

My work in public accounting has mostly been in tax, working primarily  with small closely-held businesses, trusts, estates and high net-worth individuals. I’ve worked on audits, reviews and compilations for many of these same businesses, as well as governmental entities and non-profits. I’ve worked on valuations for HVAC contractors, high-tech defense contractors, oil and gas operations, restaurants and ESOPs.

With my broad skill set, I’m the one called upon to help out with the unusual projects that come through the office, so I’ve had plenty of experience with complex calculations and projections. And I even serve as occasional backup for bookkeeping, client payroll and payroll tax reporting. My writing and research skills have come in handy when defending clients against IRS and state tax audits.

I have a natural rapport with a broad range of businesses and their owners because I myself have a broad background. I earned a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in German from the University of New Mexico in 1987. On my way to that degree, I spent a year in Germany studying biochemistry. I spent two years after graduation working in neuroscience laboratories at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, then spent four years on a team developing an international database of biomolecular data. My love of words and language eventually led me to the University of Washington, where I spent two years in a PhD program in linguistics. In 2002, my work at H&R Block inspired me to return to school for a Masters of Accounting at the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico.

My training in copywriting comes from American Writers and Artists, Inc., where I am a member of the prestigious Circle of Success and the Professional Writers Association. I have taken courses in writing case studies, newsletters, web copy and sales letters taught by industry leaders such as Bob Bly, Ed Gandia, Steve Slaunwhite, Nick Usborne and John Carlton.
